Washington, DC Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement today, Saturday, April 9, 2011, on the House and Senate compromise resolution to fund the government through Thursday, April 14, 2011, and the longer-term bipartisan agreement on spending cuts:

“We have come to an agreement on a historic amount of cuts for the remainder of this fiscal year. We passed a short-term resolution to keep the government running through Thursday that cuts the first $2 billion of the total savings and gives us time to get the long-term agreement through both chambers and on to the President.  In this longer-term proposal, we will cut $78.5 billion below the President’s 2011 budget proposal.

“This is a step in the right direction. Today we are talking about cutting billions, but now we can move to talking trillions as we work to pass a bipartisan 2012 budget that tackles the long-term debt crisis.”
