Bowling Green, KY – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement Monday, November 21, 2011, after the announcement by Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction co-chairs Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) and Patty Murray (D-WA) that they will not have an agreement by the deadline: “I am disappointed that the committee is not able to reach an agreement. Republican members on the committee submitted a plan that focused on reducing the deficit and getting our economy moving again, while Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn said the Democrats had not even agreed on a plan amongst themselves. “Our nation’s fiscal problems are not going away and I hope that leaders of both parties will come together, pick up the pieces and work toward a plan that will get our fiscal house in order." |
