Guthrie Secures Funding for WKU Alternative Energy Research

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today that he secured $500,000 to fund bio-fuels research at the WKU Institute for Combustion Science and Environmental Technology (ICSET).

Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today that he secured $500,000 to fund bio-fuels research at the WKU Institute for Combustion Science and Environmental Technology (ICSET).

“I am pleased to secure funding for this critical research at WKU,” Guthrie said.  “This research will be important as we work to develop technology that produces flexible, renewable, and alternative energy sources.  I applaud WKU for investing in the efforts to help make our country energy independent.”

“Thanks to Congressman Guthrie’s leadership and support, researchers at ICSET will be developing and testing their new and improved bio-fuel production process,” Buddy Steen, Director of the WKU Center for Research and Development, said.  “This new process, invented by WKU Researchers, has the potential to revolutionize the bio-fuel industry.  We are very excited about Dr. Wei-Ping Pan and Dr. Yan Cao’s renewable energy research at ICSET.”

These funds were included in FY 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, which is expected to pass the U.S. House of Representatives next week.
