Guthrie: Ôthe bill only made matters worse'

Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement Thursday, March 25, 2010, after voting no on the reconciliation bill.

Washington, DC Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement Thursday, March 25, 2010, after voting no on the reconciliation bill.

“Today, I voted no again on the reconciliation bill.

“The reconciliation bill was often called the ‘fix-it’ bill, promising to repair all of the issues in the health care bill. However, the bill only made matters worse.

“The reconciliation bill increased the cuts to Medicare, raised taxes even more, cut critical payments to community hospitals, and included the government takeover of student loans.

“And this is on top of the already irresponsible provisions in the health care bill that will raise insurance premiums, kill jobs, and burdens states with billions in unfunded Medicaid mandates.

“The liberal majority in Congress was not willing to work with us or the listen to the will of the American people. The only bipartisan thing about this bill was the vote against it.

“Our efforts are not over. This is not the end and we will continue to work to repeal the terrible provisions included in the health care and reconciliation bills and replace them with a plan that focuses on reducing the cost of health care for American families.”
