Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced Thursday, May 13, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.Res. 1337, a resolution expressing the sympathy and condolences of the House of Representatives to those people affected by the flooding in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi this past month. On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, President Obama signed a disaster declaration for Kentucky, making federal aid available to affected individuals, businesses, and state and local governments in several counties. State officials, along with Congressman Guthrie, are working to ensure other affected counties, who have not yet been designated, are also included. “There are overwhelming costs associated with cleanup and repair that these communities and individuals must take on. This declaration gives assistance for that clean up and could also help many who have lost homes and businesses as a result of the disaster,” Congressman Guthrie said. Those in the affected counties can begin applying today, Wednesday, May 12, 2010, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA. Congressman Guthrie also sent a letter last week to the Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to request a prompt review for agriculture emergency assistance given the widespread damage to Kentucky's farmers and agriculture industries. |
