Washington, DCCongressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement today, Wednesday, January 20, 2010, in support of Congressman Vern Buchanan’s legislation, H.Res. 847, the ‘Sunshine Resolution,’ that would require public access to health care negotiations.

Congressman Guthrie signed a discharge petition as well as voted on a procedural motion today to allow the U.S. House of Representatives to consider and vote on the bill. However, these efforts were unsuccessful.

“Americans are actively engaged in this debate and deserve openness, transparency and accountability.  Meeting behind closed doors to draft health care reform that will impact every American and transform one-sixth of our nation’s economy is not the way business should be done.

“My constituents have a right to have their voices heard and I will continue to stand in support of an open legislative process while fighting against the government takeover of health care.”
