Guthrie Statement on President's Health Care Address

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement regarding the President's address on health care reform.

Washington, DCCongressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) made the following statement on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, following the President’s address to a joint session of Congress.

“I was encouraged by President’s Obama willingness to work together on this issue that affects every single American. Our current health care system contains cracks, leaving many individuals with high bills from the soaring costs of treatment and prescription medication.

“However, the President continues to look towards a plan focused around a government-run health care system, which is not viable. Americans need specific, sensible solutions and I was disappointed I did not hear those laid out this evening.

“The option Democrats are looking towards would force millions of Americans out of their current health care plan and continue to drive our deficit to record levels.

“Our focus should remain on making health care more affordable, more accessible and higher quality by investing in prevention, encouraging healthy habits, keeping health care decisions between a patient and their doctor, and giving rural communities the same high-quality health care available in urban areas.

“I hope the willingness from the President to create a bipartisan solution is carried over into the discussion and proposals in the House.”
