Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today, Thursday, October 1, 2009, that he secured $500,000 to fund bio-fuels research at the WKU Institute for Combustion Science and Environmental Technology (ICSET).
The funding is included in the FY 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives today and will now go to the President for his signature.
Congressman Guthrie applauded WKU for investing in the efforts to help make our country energy independent.
“It is imperative that America continues to look toward other energy sources and become less dependent on foreign energy supplies,” Congressman Guthrie said. “This funding will continue important research to develop new technology that produces flexible, renewable, and alternative energy sources.”
Earlier this year, Buddy Steen, Director of the WKU Center for Research and Development, commented on Congressman Guthrie’s work to secure these funds.
“Thanks to Congressman Guthrie’s leadership and support, researchers at ICSET will be developing and testing their new and improved bio-fuel production process,” Mr. Steen said. “This new process, invented by WKU Researchers, has the potential to revolutionize the bio-fuel industry. We are very excited about Dr. Wei-Ping Pan and Dr. Yan Cao’s renewable energy research at ICSET.”
