Washington, DC – On Thursday, Congressman Brett Guthrie’s family volunteered with President Obama and his family to pack backpacks for children of servicemen and women to take with them to the National Military Family Association's Operation Purple camps this summer. His wife, Beth, and children, Caroline, Robby, and Elizabeth, joined with over 250 other volunteers to assemble 15,000 backpacks. “When one person serves in the Armed Forces, the whole family is serving,” Beth Guthrie said. “For us to give a few hours of time to help the families who sacrifice so much for our country is the least we can do. I encourage families across the Second District to take time this summer to do something for others.” The backpacks were filled with healthy snacks, letters, books, toys and a copy of first dog Bo Obama’s “baseball card.” |
