Guthrie Secures Funding to Fight Meth Epidemic

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today that he secured $300,000 to continue fighting methamphetamine use and production across the Second District.

Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today that he secured $300,000 to continue fighting methamphetamine use and production across the Second District.

“I am pleased to secure funding to fight the meth epidemic and help protect communities from this deadly drug,” Guthrie said.  “Law enforcement has had tremendous success in eliminating this terrible drug in recent years.  However, users have found new ways to create and abuse meth and last year we saw the first increase in use in half a decade.  That is why we must renew our commitment to eradicating this terrible drug with a united force between government, law enforcement, and local communities.”

“Congressman Guthrie’s efforts to ensure that we have continued resources to further our efforts in the fight against meth is very much needed and equally appreciated,” Daviess County Sheriff Keith Cain added.

Guthrie belongs to the Congressional Caucus to Fight and Control Methamphetamine, a bipartisan group of members dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of meth and finding solutions to eradicate its abuse.

In addition to securing these funds, Guthrie is a co-sponsor of the “Meth Mouth Prevention and Community Recovery Act.”  This legislation seeks to educate youth about the consequences of meth abuse, particularly the tooth decay that often results from it.  It will also ensure that oral health professionals are educated about the signs of meth abuse so they can detect use in patients and help them seek treatment for their problems.
