Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (Bowling Green) met with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi today to discuss the relief efforts following last week’s devastating ice storm.
“I appreciate Speaker Pelosi calling this meeting with Members of Congress from the states hit hardest by this storm,” Guthrie said. “I am committed to making sure that those affected in Kentucky have the necessary resources to recover from the unprecedented damage to our region. While I am encouraged by the continued progress, we still have much recovery to go. I will keep doing all that I can to see that those hit by the storm have the resources they need to get back on their feet.”
Yesterday, Congressman Guthrie sent a letter to President Obama urging him to quickly consider Governor Steve Beshear’s request for major disaster relief.
“It is critical that Kentuckians receive this level of relief as soon as possible,” Guthrie added. “Speaker Pelosi assured me that she would directly contact President Obama on Kentucky’s behalf to urge him to meet this request. I hope that President Obama will approve this request swiftly so we will have the resources we need to fully recover.”
As a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, which oversees FEMA, Congressman Guthrie continues to closely monitor the relief efforts through direct communication and staff reports. Congressman Guthrie traveled across the Second District on Monday to hear first-hand how the recovery efforts were progressing.
