My bill, the Medicaid VBPs for Patients (MVP) Act, was also part of this hearing and would give states the flexibility to provide vulnerable populations access to potentially curative treatments. The payment model in MVP Act would ensure states are not on the hook for a high-cost treatment that fails patients, while promoting innovation, improving the quality of life for these patients living with chronic conditions, and ultimately driving significant savings for states and taxpayers.

Investigation into NIH’s $1 billion spending on Public Relations Services contracts

I, along with other Energy and Commerce Committee leaders, launched an investigation into the National Institutes of Health (NIH) spending of nearly $1 billion for public relations and communications consulting services since 2018. I’m concerned about the potential of waste, fraud, and abuse and if taxpayer dollars were used to promote personalities, such as Dr. Fauci, over the intended public health campaigns. I also want to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not used to shut down true scientific debate, such as COVID-19 originating from a lab leak. The Energy Department and FBI say COVID-19 likely came from a Chinese laboratory.

Congratulations Bethlehem High School student on USNA Appointment

This week I recognized Bethlehem High School student Parker Greer for receiving an appointment to the United States Naval Academy (USNA). In front of Parker’s family and friends at his school, I presented a certificate to him for this impressive achievement.

As a West Point graduate, I take my role of nominating students to U.S. service academies seriously, and I was proud to nominate Parker with the guidance of my Second District Academy Board.

Congratulations Art Competition Winners

Each year I host the Congressional Art Competition, which is a nationwide competition that participating Members of the U.S. House of Representatives hold in their respective districts.

I was proud to announce this year’s winners at a reception I hosted this week in Elizabethtown for the participants and their families and educators. Out of 37 students across the district, Nelson County High School student Dakota Kirchner won overall first place.

Dakota’s artwork, “What If He Was Never Really There,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol with other winning artworks from across the nation. The full list of winners can be found HERE. Thanks to the talented students from our area and our dedicated local judges and educators for making this another great competition.

Congressional App Challenge Winners Showcase App in U.S. Capitol

In addition to the Congressional Art Competition, I also host the Congressional App Challenge each year to encourage students to learn new coding skills. The winners from Kentucky’s Second District – Megan Shirley and Clay Madison – recently participated in a #HouseofCode reception in the U.S. Capitol with other app challenge winners around the country to showcase their app, P.A.T. - Parkinson’s Assistive Technology.

The Barren County High School team represented their school and the Commonwealth of Kentucky well at the app challenge reception. I’m hosting the App Challenge again this year, and the portal opens June 15th and closes November 1st for submissions.
