My bill, the Medicaid VBPs for Patients (MVP) Act, was also part of this hearing and would give states the flexibility to provide vulnerable populations access to potentially curative treatments. The payment model in MVP Act would ensure states are not on the hook for a high-cost treatment that fails patients, while promoting innovation, improving the quality of life for these patients living with chronic conditions, and ultimately driving significant savings for states and taxpayers.
Investigation into NIH’s $1 billion spending on Public Relations Services contracts
I, along with other Energy and Commerce Committee leaders, launched an investigation into the National Institutes of Health (NIH) spending of nearly $1 billion for public relations and communications consulting services since 2018. I’m concerned about the potential of waste, fraud, and abuse and if taxpayer dollars were used to promote personalities, such as Dr. Fauci, over the intended public health campaigns. I also want to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not used to shut down true scientific debate, such as COVID-19 originating from a lab leak. The Energy Department and FBI say COVID-19 likely came from a Chinese laboratory.
