Dear Friends,

This August, I have been busy visiting counties in Kentucky’s Second District to meet with hardworking Kentuckians like you to talk about how I am working to deliver real results for our communities. This month, I held a health care roundtable in Hardin County, met with Judge Executives from 13 counties and elected officials from 11 cities, and I will visit all 20 counties in the Second District before Congress next meets again in Washington. 

Roundtable on the Substance Use Disorder Epidemic

On August 14, I held a roundtable with community leaders in Hardin County on the reauthorization of the SUPPORT Act. As Chair of the Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Health, I have heard and read too many tragic stories from families in Kentucky and across the country who have lost loved ones due to fentanyl poisoning.

Substance use disorder is an issue we must continue to work to address. Reauthorizing the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act is a central policy priority of mine in Congress. This legislation would provide wrap-around services, such as treatment and recovery support services, to those seeking to overcome their substance use disorder, in addition to working on the front end to prevent overdose deaths entirely.

I was pleased to hear from those around our community, including the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy, about how this bill will help individuals, families, and health care providers across the Commonwealth continue to address the overdose crisis and how we can work together to prevent opioid overdose deaths around the Second District.

Met with Local Energy Leaders on Stopping the Biden Administration's Executive Overreach

On August 9, I met with stakeholders from across the energy sector in Owensboro to discuss what House Republicans have been working on in Washington to bring energy production  back to the United States. We discussed policies from the Biden administration that have hurt our economy and make already-rising energy prices even higher.

My discussion with Kentucky’s energy leaders centered around how we can produce energy here in America and lower energy costs for consumers across the Commonwealth.

As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will always fight for American energy independence and work to make our energy affordable!
