Friends,
I’ve had a busy past couple of weeks working in Washington and back home in Kentucky. Take a look below to see what I’ve been up to in this edition of Brett’s Bulletin.

Honoring Those Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice On Memorial Day, I had the opportunity to attend the annual Memorial Day Service at American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green. We will never forget the American heroes who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Memorial Day is special to my family and me. Every year, we remember my uncle, Robert Guthrie, who was killed in 1952 in the Korean War. Additionally, this year on Memorial Day, we remember the families of Sergeant Pennington and Sergeant Pruitt, two Kentuckians killed in the line of duty during Operation Epic Fury, as they navigate their first Memorial Day without their loved ones. We are forever indebted to them for their family's sacrifice.

Improving Water Quality in Edmonson County It was an honor to play a part in securing over $23 million in federal funding that will provide for modernization upgrades within the Edmonson County Water District, ensuring residents have access to safe and reliable water for years to come. Recently, I had a chance to join with federal, state, and local leaders for a celebration with community members to talk about the impact this funding will have on the county.
This funding reflects a years-long, collaborative effort between Senator McConnell, State Senator David Givens, State Representative Michael Meredith, Judge/Executive Scott Lindsey, the Edmonson County Water District, other local stakeholders, and myself. A great day for Edmonson County. You can learn more about this project here.

Working to Provide Reliable and Affordable Energy for Kentuckians I had a productive conversation with the Salt River Electric Co-op about the work I am doing as Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to create a regulatory framework that allows them to deliver affordable and reliable power to Kentucky homes and businesses.
Thanks for having me and for all you do to keep our Commonwealth powered.
Investing in the Future of Young Kentuckians It was great to visit the almost-completed Warren County Schools IMPACT Center for Leadership and Innovation in Bowling Green.
This impressive new facility will serve as a career exploration hub, allowing students to get hands-on experience in various careers, helping to shape their future. I’m confident this will be an incredible investment and benefit young Kentuckians for years to come.

Visiting with Local Leaders in Logan County
It was wonderful to be in Logan County recently to meet with local officials and discuss how we can continue to work together to keep this community a great place to live, work, and raise a family!
Thanking Our First Responders It was an honor to be in Hartford for the Ohio County First Responders Appreciation Dinner! Thank you to all of our first responders in Ohio County and across the Commonwealth.
Our nation and Commonwealth are stronger and safer because of your service and sacrifice!
Advancing Legislation to the Full House Recently, I led the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in advancing 16 bills to the full House in a full Committee markup.
During this markup, we worked on a bipartisan basis to advance legislation that improves recycling, supports key public health initiatives, such as early Alzheimer’s and breast cancer detection, as well as to enhance motor vehicle safety. You can learn more about this markup here.

Protecting Americans’ Data Privacy Last week, my Committee held a legislative hearing to examine our SECURE Data Act, which is our comprehensive data security and privacy bill. This legislation mirrors our state law here in Kentucky, which both red and blue states have successfully used as a model. Like Kentucky’s bill, our proposal will establish a uniform federal data privacy standard to keep Americans’ data secure and protect businesses of all sizes from overbearing regulations.
It was an honor to welcome Kentucky Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ashli Watts to testify in this hearing.
During her testimony, she shared her perspective on how Kentucky's privacy and data security law, which is similar to the bill we examined today, has impacted businesses in the Commonwealth!
Lulu’s Law Last month, the House passed Lulu’s Law to enable local, state, tribal, and federal authorities to quickly issue a mobile alert to the public when a shark attack occurs or when conditions that could lead to such an attack are present.
This bill was named after Lulu Gribbins, an Alabama girl, who was severely injured in a shark attack in June 2024, 90 minutes after another shark attack occurred a few miles away. It was an honor to celebrate the House passage of this House Committee on Energy and Commerce bill with Lulu and her family. This bill previously passed the Senate and now awaits signature by President Trump.
Supporting Our Veterans Late last month, the House passed two bipartisan bills to enhance benefits for America’s most disabled veterans and the surviving spouses of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation, and to protect the Second Amendment rights of veterans.
H.R. 6047, the Shari Bailey and Eric Edmundson Veterans Expansion Act, would expand benefits for America’s most disabled veterans and the surviving spouses of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
H.R. 1041, the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, would codify a Trump Administration rule to ensure veterans are not stripped of their right to own a firearm without due process.
I’m proud to have voted in favor of these commonsense bills to support those who have sacrificed so much for our nation!

Holding Fraudsters Accountable Over the past months, Americans have been outraged by the alarming fraud schemes that have come to light. From California to Minnesota to New York, the schemes that have been uncovered have victimized the very individuals these programs are intended to serve and cost American taxpayers billions of dollars.
Last week, the House passed the Stop Child Care Scams Act, which is a comprehensive bill to address fraud in federal childcare programs by increasing fraud detection measures, improving audits, enhancing data sharing between states, and requiring states to take corrective action when improper payments or violations occur. This bill would also prohibit federal funds from going to states that fail to take action to counter fraud.

Take a look at this op-ed in the Courier Journal by a local student and server about how the Working Families Tax Cuts have helped young people get ahead!
Last year, Republicans made a commitment to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. I am proud to report we delivered on that promise. You can read the full op-ed here.
