Brett’s Bulletin: Protecting our Nation and Your Data

Dear Friends,

It has been an honor meeting with so many of you at the U.S. Capitol and across our beautiful district in recent weeks. Between my meetings with hardworking and passionate Kentuckians, I have been working with my House Republican colleagues to protect our national security. Last week I was proud to help protect American national security by ensuring that countries that wish to do our nation harm do not have access to Americans’ personal and sensitive information. I will always fight to ensure citizens and their families are safe from foreign threats.

Defending Our Nation and Protecting Americans' Privacy

As a senior member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, I recently received a briefing from national security experts on the national security risks posed by apps like TikTok that are owned by our foreign adversaries. That’s why I was proud to vote to protect our national security and Americans’ personal data from the dangers posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). To be clear this is NOT a ban of TikTok. The bill that I helped pass through the House simply requires the CCP controlled company, ByteDance, to divest their interest in TikTok.

The CCP has used companies it controls, like ByteDance, to covertly target, surveil, and influence the American people and our way of life. Congress must stay vigilant in protecting American national security and not allow Americans’ data to fall into the hands of our adversaries. I am proud of the work the Energy & Commerce Committee has done to protect our national security, and the private data of everyday Americans.

Attended President Biden’s State of the Union

On March 7, I attended President Biden’s State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol. The President once again made his case for the state of our nation. Unfortunately, the address missed the mark about the issues every day Americans are facing since he took office. Since January 2021 gas prices have risen above $3 per gallon, our streets are less safe, and our border is overrun with illicit drugs and illegal immigrants. Thanks to Joe Biden’s policies, Americans are less safe, and their paychecks aren’t going nearly as far as they did under President Trump’s leadership.

Since President Biden took office in 2021, we have seen tens of thousands of pounds of deadly fentanyl and illicit drugs cross our Southern border as a result of this administration's open border policies. I am proud of the work House Republicans have done to help address this issue over the past year. Republicans have passed the HALT Fentanyl Act and my SUPPORT Act to take illicit drugs like fentanyl and it’s deadly additives like Xylazine off our streets.

As Chair of the Health Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I am proud of the work we have done to increase price transparency in health care, while also working to maintain access to life saving cures. While President Biden says he wants to cure cancer, his policies unfortunately tell a different story. His policies have already led to fewer life-saving drugs from coming to market and have led to premium increases for seniors in Medicare Part D.

I am committed to ensuring all Americans have access to the key therapies they need and with the bipartisan Lower Costs More Transparency Act, we can ensure that these therapies are provided at prices Americans can afford.

Passed a Bill to Spur Future Nuclear Energy Sites

On February 28, the House of Representatives passed the Atomic Energy Advancement Act, which included my bill the Nuclear for Brownfields Site Preparation Act. This bill will direct the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to identify and report on the regulations, guidance, or policy necessary to license and allow nuclear facilities at brownfield sites as well as other sites with retired fossil fuel facilities.

One of my central priorities in Congress is to help make America energy independent once again, and put Kentucky back at the forefront of our nation’s energy production. My bill helps us to do just that by using Kentucky’s best resource, our incredible energy workforce, along with our existing infrastructure. Unfortunately, due to the Left's War on Coal, many coal fired plants have been forced to close. It is essential that Kentucky and our country make the use of our dedicated energy workforce to put our nation back on the path to energy dominance and lower costs for everyday Americans.
