Brett’s Bulletin: Delivering Tax Relief and Hearing Your Concerns   Dear Friends,With 2024 now in full gear, I am excited to continue my work on solving the issues most important for Kentuckians across the Second District. This includes working to secure our Southern border, helping to lower the costs of health care for patients across the country, and providing tax relief for Kentuckians. As the year goes on, I look forward to seeing and hearing from you as I work to bring your views and voices to Washington. I will always fight for policies that will strengthen our economy, protect our communities by securing our border, and defend our American freedoms.

Brett’s Bulletin: Delivering Tax Relief and Hearing Your Concerns

Dear Friends,

With 2024 now in full gear, I am excited to continue my work on solving the issues most important for Kentuckians across the Second District.

Securing our Border by Preventing Abuse in Medicaid

E&C

In January, I introduced a bill alongside my Energy and Commerce colleague Richard Hudson (NC-09), the Protect Medicaid Act, which will prohibit the use of federal taxpayer funds from being used to administer Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants.

Despite current law prohibiting federal funds from being used to provide Medicaid benefits to undocumented immigrants, some states such as California have started providing Medicaid services to these individuals. While this statute doesn’t prohibit states from spending their own resources on undocumented immigrants, it reinforces current law by prohibiting federal dollars from being used for the administration of such benefits for these individuals.

This ensures federal taxpayers aren’t paying for Medicaid benefits for undocumented immigrants and places the responsibility solely on state policymakers who chose to do so. This will also ensure we aren’t incentivizing illegal immigration to the United States.

I am committed to limiting the incentives that are drawing even more illegal immigrants to our country and forcing every state to become a border state under the Biden administration.

Delivering Tax Relief for Kentuckians

cannon

In February, I voted for the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 alongside my House Republican colleagues, which helps to extend some key expiring provisions from the 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act, which was signed by President Trump and provided historic tax relief to Kentuckians.

In 2017, House Republicans and President Trump helped usher in tax cuts across the board to bring down high taxes and simplify the tax system. I was proud to help deliver historic tax relief for Kentuckians and Americans across the nation. This bill helps support hardworking American families and our small businesses by cutting red tape and allowing for increased small business expensing such as equipment.

As the pro-family party, House Republicans have delivered for families by strengthening the child tax credit while preserving key program integrity standards, like work requirements and documentation to protect against fraud and abuse. This bill also helps businesses to support innovation and growth in the United States by allowing research and development expensing here at home.

These historic policies will not only help grow our economy but will also keep our nation competitive with Communist China for years to come.

The 2024 Congressional Art Competition is Underway

art comp

This year’s 2024 Congressional Art Competition is underway once again!

I’m encouraging all high school students who enjoy creating art to participate in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. Each year I am honored to host this competition, and I’m always impressed with the artistic talent of students across Kentucky’s Second District. Thank you to all local educators and judges for helping make this year’s Congressional Art Competition possible!

Each spring, participating members of Congress host the Congressional Art Competition in their respective districts. The artwork of students from Kentucky’s Second District is judged by an independent and local panel of art professors from colleges and universities. The overall winner’s artwork from Kentucky’s Second District and other districts and territories will be featured in the U.S. Capitol. The second and third-place overall winners’ artwork will be displayed in Congressman Guthrie’s Bowling Green District office.
