Brett’s Bulletin: Supporting Our Veterans and Our Communities   Dear Friends, This last month has been very busy, working to fund the government and provide needed support for our tireless veterans. Our district is home to many brave active-duty service members, reservists, Guardsmen, veterans, and their families. These brave men and women keep our nation safe and I am grateful to every veteran and their families for their service to protect our freedoms. Every single day, but most importantly on Veterans Day, we have a duty to put veterans first. I thank them and their families for their service to our country. I have had the honor to meet with many constituents from across our beautiful district and bring your voice to the U.S. Capitol. I was proud to work to deliver for those who give so much to our nation by voting to provide a historic pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers and help veterans who were Prisoners of War get the medical care they need.

Brett’s Bulletin: Supporting Our Veterans and Our Communities

Dear Friends,

This last month has been very busy, working to fund the government and provide needed support for our tireless veterans.

Supported a Historic Pay Raise for Servicemembers

As the proud Representative of thousands of military servicemembers and their families, Fort Knox, and the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center, I am proud to strongly support our active-duty servicemembers and our veterans. I recently voted for the FY24 Defense Appropriations bill which ensures our men and women in uniform are supported by Congress with the tools they need to keep us safe.

The House Defense Appropriations bill includes a historic pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers averaging nearly 30%. I am especially proud that this bill supports the work our National Guard does to prevent the flow of illicit drugs from entering our communities by funding their counter-drug programs, including training programs designed to halt drug Cartels from trafficking these poisons into our country.

I will always stand up for our servicemembers and am honored to bring our shared values to Congress.

Introduced a Bill to Prioritize POWs Medical Care Priority Status at the VA

I recently helped introduce crucial legislation, the POW Priority Care Act, which provides former Prisoners of War (POW) the highest priority group status for medical care at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Our veterans who were POWs have faced unimaginable hardships in addition to physical and mental trauma from combat. Our nation and Congress have a responsibility to put those that have given so much for our nation first.

For this reason, I am proud to work with my colleagues from across the aisle to recognize the adversity that our POWs have faced by elevating these veterans to the highest priority status, ensuring they receive the health care services that they have earned as quickly as possible.
