Supported Israel’s Defense Against Hamas Terrorists and Assisted Kentuckians Fleeing Violence

I have and always will stand with our key ally, Israel. The recent violence perpetrated by Hamas was the deadliest attack against the Jewish people, including American citizens, since the Holocaust. These Hamas terrorists have harmed thousands of innocent men, women, and children in Israel, which is a reminder that we must always be vigilant and continue to assist Israel in defending itself against this brutality. Last week, I joined with Chairman Michael McCaul and nearly 400 other Members of Congress in introducing a resolution condemning Hamas and affirming America's support for Israel.

Multiple church groups from Kentucky were visiting the Holy Land at the time of the attack, and my office was in direct communication with them every step of the way to ensure our Kentucky families arrived home safely and quickly.

Check Out my Latest Op-ed on My Vote to Keep our Government Open

"Funding the government is one of Congress’ most fundamental duties. The process can be confusing, with legislation to fund our government frequently changing. This past weekend, we saw this process play out in Washington ahead of the looming Oct. 1 deadline and I would like to update you on the actions I took to ensure our troops and military families as well as border patrol agents, can be paid."

Held A Roundtable with Law Enforcement Leaders on the Drug Overdose Epidemic

On September 7, I held a roundtable with law enforcement officials to discuss the overdose crisis and how law enforcement can help combat the drug overdose epidemic and keep illicit drugs off our streets. In the last several years, we have too often heard the painful stories from families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl poisonings.

In Kentucky alone, illicit fentanyl poisonings have contributed to over 70% of all drug overdose deaths in three consecutive years. As a result of this pervasive problem, it was important for me to gather law enforcement officials that are on the frontlines of this battle. As Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Health, I have worked to provide law enforcement with the tools they need to prevent overdose deaths from occurring entirely.

As Chairman, I helped lead the House passage of the HALT Fentanyl Act which would permanently schedule fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs. Additionally, I am leading the Support for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act, which schedules Xylazine, the newest deadly street drug that is being laced with fentanyl, as a Schedule III drug. Both of these bills will help give our law enforcement the tools they need to stop drug trafficking in its tracks, especially those being smuggled across our Southern Border. I will continue to partner with state, local, and federal law enforcement to ensure we end this crisis once and for all.
