Dear Friends,

Kentucky’s Second District is home to many brave service members and their families, who give so much to our nation. That’s why I am proud to help deliver real results for those who have sacrificed so much to keep our nation free. I am also assisting Kentucky’s veteran community. In fact, my team has assisted over 121 veterans since January, to ensure they receive the benefits they are owed.

Passed a Historic Defense Authorization Bill

As the proud representative of both Fort Knox and the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center, I am thrilled to support the historic 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that includes the largest pay raise for service members in over 20 years.

This legislation will also expand Basic Needs Allowance to assist service members supporting a family, authorize $240 million to reduce out-of-pocket housing expenses, and expand reimbursements available to military spouses for relicensing costs when service members transfer locations.

This will provide strong support of our military and their families to ensure our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to defend our freedoms, while rejecting President Biden’s efforts to reduce the size of the military.

Improving the Quality of Life of Our Veterans

After putting their life on the line for our nation, our veterans deserve to be taken care of. That’s why I voted to fully fund veteran’s health care programs, including for those exposed to toxic burn pits.

When our veterans need health services it is crucial they receive the services they request in a timely manner. Fully funding programs such as the electronic health record modernization initiative, which will transition veterans’ health care records from paper copies to electronic versions, will help improve the level of care our veterans receive each day. Our veterans deserve the best care our country can offer, this program will help ensure that.

Introduced Landmark Legislation to Fight Against the Overdose Epidemic

In 2018, I helped to pass the crucial Substance Use Disorder Prevention That Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT Act). This bill provided access to substance use disorder treatment services for the most vulnerable seeking to overcome addiction. Specifically, the legislation provided coverage for certified opioid treatment programs for patients on Medicare and temporarily provided coverage of medication assisted treatment for Medicaid recipients.

I am proud to reintroduce this legislation to continue providing for substance use disorder treatment that has helped millions of Americans overcome their substance use disorders. In just the past two years, more than 200,000 Americans have tragically lost their lives to drug overdoses and poisonings, driven by synthetic opioids such as illicit fentanyl.

Through the reauthorization of this legislation Congress can build upon prior work to promote prevention and access to life-saving care to help curb this horrific epidemic that has taken the lives of too many Kentuckians.
