Brett’s Bulletin: A Historic Few Weeks

It’s been a historic last couple of weeks with President Trump’s State of the Union Address, ongoing strikes against the ruthless Iranian regime, and moving important legislation through the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Here’s the latest edition of Brett’s Bulletin.

DC Recap

Addressing the Ongoing Conflict in Iran
Before I discuss the ongoing strikes more broadly, let me first address the tragic loss of Sgt. Benjamin Pennington, of Glendale, Kentucky, who was killed in an enemy attack earlier this month. Sgt. Pennington will forever be remembered and mourned by the Commonwealth for his sacrifice. Please join Beth and me in praying for this hero's family and loved ones. Our nation is forever grateful for Sgt. Pennington's sacrifice.

Like so many Americans, I have been closely monitoring the ongoing U.S. military operations against the barbaric Iranian regime. I recently received a classified briefing from members of the Trump Administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Iran Statement.jpeg

I applaud President Trump’s strong leadership to end Iran’s nuclear capabilities and remain confident in his leadership on the world stage to protect our national security. You can read my full statement above.

War Powers Resolution.jpeg

Additionally, the House voted on a War Powers Resolution regarding the ongoing military action. Let me be clear, I voted against this resolution, as I believe the President complied with the War Powers Act in notifying Congress. If adopted, the resolution would have immediately ceased American operations against Iran, but Iran's ongoing attacks on American assets and Embassies in the Middle East would continue. Calling for unilateral disarmament is irresponsible.

Attending President Trump’s State of the Union
Recently, President Trump gave his State of the Union Address to a Joint Session of Congress. During his speech, the President highlighted the historic successes of our country over the past year and outlined the clear next steps that need to be taken on the path toward continued American exceptionalism.

From transforming our economy, to securing the border, to unburdening businesses from bloated government mandates, he demonstrated that America's best moments truly are ahead!

Visitors to D.C.

Over the past couple of weeks, it was an honor to host more than 30 groups from Kentucky to the Capitol and hear about the issues that are most important to them.

No matter what is on the schedule, it’s always the highlight of my week to meet with folks from back home. Thank you to all the incredible Kentuckians who made the trip to Washington and for all you do to advocate for the issues most important to you!

Welcoming the Kentucky Farm Bureau to Washington
It was wonderful to welcome so many agriculture producers from the Kentucky Farm Bureau to our nation's capital!

Thanks for all you do to keep our nation fed and for making the trip to Washington!

Protecting Our Children on the Internet
One of the biggest problems facing the safety of our children today is the online threats posed by bad actors and the lack of tools available to parents trying to protect their kids. That’s why as Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, I introduced the Kids Internet and Digital Safety (KIDS) Act, which was advanced during a full committee markup last week.

KIDS Act.jpeg

My bill includes 12 legislative proposals that my committee has been working on for months to implement key safeguards for our children and teens. Overall, the KIDS Act will mandate platforms to enable minor protections as a default, empower parents to have oversight of their child’s online experience, protect data privacy, mandate age verification to access explicit content like pornography, hold big tech companies accountable, and more. You can learn more about my bill here and here.

While I'm disappointed that my Democrat colleagues walked away from the negotiating table and chose to vote against this commonsense bill, the health and well-being of our children is too important. My bill will protect children, plain and simple.

Bolstering the Security of Our Energy Infrastructure
With increasing energy demand and ever-present threats to our national security, we must bolster the security of our nation’s pipeline infrastructure.

Last week, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing to examine legislation to reauthorize the federal pipeline safety program. Take a look at my opening statement above!

Working to Lower the Cost of Housing
My Committee is continuing our efforts to make home ownership and energy costs more affordable for the American people.

Homeowner Freedom.jpeg

The House passed the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act to repeal burdensome energy efficiency and building code programs that have raised home energy bills and further exacerbated the housing crisis.

Important Information for Kentucky Farmers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently announced additional information regarding two programs that provide assistance for agriculture producers after a difficult year due to market disruptions.

It is essential that qualifying Kentucky farmers take action to receive their Farmer Bridge Assistance program payments during the ongoing enrollment window, which will close on April 17, 2026. Additional information about the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program and the Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers (ASCF) program can be found here.

Visiting With Our Future Leaders

Every Spring, I always enjoy visiting with fifth-grade students across our district to discuss the separation of powers and the work I do as a Member of Congress.

School visits

It was a pleasure to speak with classes at Hardinsburg Elementary School, Abraham Lincoln Elementary, and Hodgenville Elementary School over the past few weeks! I am confident our Commonwealth is in great hands with these future leaders!

Celebrating Historic Investments in Breckinridge County

Breck schools.jpeg

I joined Kentucky Rural Development Director Travis Burton and local officials in Breckinridge County to celebrate the announcement that nearly $850,000 has been awarded to the county to help expand access to telehealth and STEM education for rural students. This is a great investment for the future of our rural communities!

Supporting American Manufacturing

Xtreme Fab

I stopped by to meet with the team at Xtreme Fabrication in Grayson County to see their recent expansion at their facility and learn more about the work they do. Thanks for having me!

Visiting with the Team at Rider’s Market

Rider's Market

I made a pitstop at Rider’s Market to visit with their team and congratulate this family-owned business on its return to Upton! Having grown up working in my grandfather’s grocery store, I know firsthand how important these local institutions are to local communities! Congrats!

Supporting Mammoth Cave National Park
We are so lucky to have Mammoth Cave National Park right in our backyard! After damage in last year’s storms that led to the Green River Ferry closing for nearly a year, my team and I heard from many residents about how the ferry closure disrupted daily commutes and travel times. I am grateful for the coordination between the National Park Service and local stakeholders to reopen the ferry for locals and visitors alike!

Mammoth Cave

I also wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity to provide input for changes at the park. The National Park Service recently proposed a rule and opened up a public comment period about the possibility of expanding bike and horse trail opportunities at Mammoth Cave. If you would like to provide a comment, you can do so here before April 10th!

In the News

Congressional Republicans are advancing meaningful legislation to protect kids, empower parents and guardians, and address the harms children and teens face online.
