Congressman Brett Guthrie - Representing the 2nd District of Kentucky

Dear Friends,

It has been a sad week around the country as we grapple with the senseless violence that took place in Las Vegas late Sunday night. My prayers remain with the victims and their families and with our country as we recover from such a terrible event. You may be interested to know that I have joined with a group of my colleagues to urge the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to reevaluate “bump stocks,” the device used by the Las Vegas shooter to turn his firearms into automatic weapons.

I am proud to announce that my bill, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act, passed the House floor this week. I was proud to introduce this bill with Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), along with along with Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), to reauthorize a program for early detection, diagnosis, and intervention in cases where newborns and young children are identified as deaf or hard-of-hearing.

My bill passed the House unanimously and now heads to President Trump's desk to be signed into law! You can read more about the bill here or watch my floor speech below

On Tuesday, the Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee questioned former Equifax CEO Richard Smith about the hack that has impacted nearly 50 percent of the total U.S. population, including 1.9 million Kentuckians. I asked him why it took so long for consumers to be notified about the hack and how Equifax can restore confidence in credit reporting. Watch my questions:

My office hosted over 25 families who were traveling to Washington, D.C., this week for fall break. It was so great to meet so many families from all over the Second District! If you're coming to D.C., you can request a U.S. Capitol tour here: https://guthrie.house.gov/visit-washington-dc/.
