Brett’s Bulletin: Bringing Down Energy Prices While Supporting our Key Energy Workforce

Dear Friends,

I have enjoyed meeting many of you over the past month in the Halls of Congress and across our old Kentucky home. Your tireless advocacy on issues impacting Kentuckians makes me incredibly proud to represent you in Washington.

I have also been hard at work with my House Republican colleagues working to lower costs for everyday Kentuckians while also affirming our steadfast support for our key allies, such as Israel. I am also proud to say that my bill, the Nuclear for Brownfields Site Preparation Act, was signed into law by the President on July 9. This law will help drive development of nuclear energy sites and provide continued employment to our energy producing communities. By ensuring our nation is once again energy independent we can drive down energy costs for both our hardworking families across the Commonwealth and our Main Street small businesses.

Ending the Biden-Harris policies that have caused a crisis at our Southern Border

Border

Since January 2021, our Southern border has been invaded by more than 8 million illegal immigrants and tens of thousands of pounds of deadly drugs, such as illicit fentanyl. In March of 2021, President Biden placed Vice President Harris in charge of policies to control the border, and the crisis has only gotten significantly worse.

Since then these destructive policies have led to more than 350 individuals on the terror watchlist attempt to cross our border, with more than 93 crossing this fiscal year alone. It is clear we do not have control of our Southern border.

That’s why I was proud to vote alongside my House colleagues for H.R. 1371, to condemn Vice President Harris’ actions as Border Czar which have failed to stem the flow of migrants into our nation. I’ve also continued to urge the Senate to take up H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which will re-implement President Trump’s successful Remain in Mexico policies and help to regain control of our border.

President Ronald Reagan famously once said that “a nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.” We must regain control of our border, and I am proud to help lead the effort to do so.

Standing with our Strongest Ally in the Middle East

Israel

On July 24, I joined my House colleagues in participating in a joint session of Congress to hear Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speak on their fight to defend their sovereignty, bring justice to those attacked on October 7th, and bring all hostages home.

I am proud of the work House Republicans have done to deliver critical assistance to our greatest ally in the Middle East and stand committed to supporting Israel in defense of their sovereignty.

Introduced Bill to Create Greater Access to Life Saving Medications

health

On July 30, I introduced my new bill, the Patient Access Act, that will help provide even greater access to life saving therapies and medicines for rare disease patients across the nation.

Too often specialized treatments, such as curative cell-and-gene therapies, must be administered in specialized health care facilities that often require extended monitoring by the team of specialized health care providers to track a patient’s progress. This also requires patients and their families to travel long distances to access this life-saving care.

My bill helps to ensure that these patients, especially those in rural communities, are able to bridge the gap to receive the life saving care they need by removing barriers that will help to cover the costs of traveling and spending time away from their daily lives while they receive treatment. I am proud to be helping to lead the effort to ensure that patients across Kentucky and the nation continue to receive the therapies they need to live long and healthy lives.

My Brownfields Nuclear Sites Bill Signed into Law

granholm

On July 9, my bill the Nuclear for Brownfields Site Preparation Act was signed into law by the President as a critical piece of the ADVANCE Act. This important new law will help to usher in the next generation of nuclear power production and places our country at the forefront of nuclear energy expansion across the globe.

One of my central priorities in Congress is to help make America energy independent once again, and put Kentucky back at the forefront of our nation’s energy production. My bill helps us to do just that by using Kentucky’s best resource, our incredible energy workforce, along with our existing infrastructure.

Unfortunately, due to the Left's War on Coal, many coal fired plants have been forced to close, leaving behind valuable infrastructure that can be used to spur future energy production. This bill not only helps to ensure that this energy infrastructure is used to encourage future innovation in nuclear energy, but helps to ensure we make use of our dedicated energy workforce to put our nation back on the path to energy dominance and lower costs for everyday Americans.
