Brett’s Bulletin: Laken Riley Act Signed Into Law to Protect our Kentucky Communities

Dear Friends,

It has been a busy few weeks as Congress gets underway working with President Trump to once again put the American people first. I was proud to represent you at my first hearings as the new Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce where we dived into broadband issues and how the Environmental Protection Agency imposed undue and burdensome regulations onto the American people. I have also been honored to visit with so many of you across our communities in LaRue, Logan, and Butler counties in recent weeks. I look forward to continuing to bring our shared voice and values to the negotiating table and halls of Congress as we tackle the biggest issues facing our nation.

Since Day 1 in Office, President Trump has been determined to keep our communities safe by deporting illegal aliens who have committed crimes in our nation. Do you support President Trump’s agenda of securing our Southern border and deporting illegal aliens who violate our laws?

Helped Pass the Laken Riley Act to Protect Kentuckians and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Commit Crimes

On January 22, I was proud to vote alongside my House colleagues in support for the Laken Riley Act. This key bill requires detention of illegal aliens who commit theft and allows a state to sue the Federal government on behalf of their citizens for not enforcing the border laws, particularly in the case of parole. This landmark legislation also works to protect our dedicated law enforcement by requiring detention and deportation of illegal aliens who assault our brave police officers. We must protect our citizens and ensure what happened to Laken is never allowed to occur again!

This is a central priority for House Republicans which is why it was the first bill we passed in the House in the 119th Congress and was the first bill President Trump signed into law on January 29, 2025. I am committed to continue leading this charge to ensure our communities are safe once again and our border is brought under control.

Passed Bill to Protect the Unborn

environment

On January 23, I was proud to vote for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation requires health care providers to administer the same medical care to a baby born alive from an attempted abortion as they would to a baby born prematurely at the same age.

As a proud cosponsor of this bill I was glad to see it pass the House with bipartisan support. I am committed to protecting the lives of the unborn and I will always unequivocally support a child’s right to life!

Protected Women’s and Girls Sports

On January 14, I proudly voted for Congressman Greg Steube’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025. Biological males do not belong in women’s sports. This legislation protects the integrity of women’s sports  by preventing schools from allowing biological males to compete in school athletic programs for women and girls.

This week we further commemorate girls and women's sports as we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day. I am proud of the work House Republicans have done this Congress and will continue to do to protect women and girls sports from the invasion of biological males.
