Brett’s Bulletin: An Energized Week in Washington

Dear Friends,

This week, after the longest government shutdown in history, the House took action to unleash American energy dominance and prioritize affordability for the American people. Take a look below to see some of what I was up to!

DC Recap

Unleashing American Energy

All year, House Republicans have been working to enact policies to undo the damage caused by failed policies under the Biden Administration. As Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, ensuring hardworking families have access to affordable and reliable energy is one of my top priorities.

This week, the House passed two of my committee’s bills to do just that. If enacted, our REFINER Act would allow Congress to identify and tackle the challenges refineries face to keep America’s energy affordable and reliable. If you want energy affordability, not only do you have to get crude oil out of the ground, you have to refine it so that we can use it.

Unlocking LNG

Additionally, the full House passed the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act by a vote of 217-188. This bill would lift the restrictions on the import and export of liquid natural gas. Under the previous administration, restrictions on the export of American natural gas resulted in our allies relying on our shared adversaries, like Russia, to power their nations. That has not only extended the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, it also hurt our domestic economy. This bill is essential to fulfilling President Trump’s agenda of establishing energy dominance and peace globally.

The House also voted to overturn three obstructionist Biden-era energy rules, which hampered America’s energy production and infrastructure. If enacted, these three bills would open up land in energy-rich states to increase domestic energy production and help lower energy costs for families.

Veterans COLA Adjustment Act

Our nation’s veterans made countless sacrifices for the freedoms we too often take for granted. The House passed the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act to increase veterans’ benefits at the rate of inflation. This is a commonsense win to support those who have given so much.

Epstein Files Vote

This week, the House voted 427-1 to release the Epstein files. Immediately after we did so, the Senate unanimously passed our bill and on Wednesday, November 19th, President Trump signed it into law.

Americans deserve transparency. Anyone who committed these heinous acts against minors must be held accountable by law enforcement.

Committee Corner

This week, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce quickly hit the ground running and is full speed ahead. We held two subcommittee hearings in addition to two subcommittee markups to advance important legislation to the full House. Take a look below to learn more about what our committee accomplished!

Energy Markup

This week, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Energy held a markup to advance eight bills to lower costs for American families. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, big government rules and regulations were far too common.

This markup advanced bills to overturn some of the bloated regulations related to home appliances and home construction. Reducing unnecessary regulations is essential in getting prices down for families.

Time, Travel, and Tourism Hearing

One of the unique issues the House Committee on Energy and Commerce has jurisdiction over are policies related to the biannual time changes, travel, and tourism. As you may know, over the past several years, there have been various proposals to eliminate the time change to favor either Standard or Daylight Saving Time.

With Kentucky’s Second District straddling the border between the eastern and central time zones, we’re no strangers to the reality of navigating the change in timing. I want to hear from you – how do you want Congress to legislate the time change?

Our committee also held a hearing looking into AI chatbots and the potential dangers and benefits they pose. Take a look at my opening statement at the hearing below!

Supporting Kentucky’s Military Posture

Last week, as a part of the package that reopened the federal government, Congress passed a bill to allocate $259 million for military projects across Kentucky! This is peace through strength in action.

Hosting Kentuckians in D.C.

Here’s a brief recap of some of the Kentuckians I hosted in D.C. this week.

KY Visitors-2

It was great to catch up with Jason Hayden from the Owensboro Fine Art Museum and hear about the work they’re doing to gear up to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary next year.

KY Visitors-3

I had a great conversation with the National Cable and Television Association to discuss ways that Congress can partner with rural communities and stakeholders to increase access to reliable and high speed broadband.

KY Visitors-1

It’s always fun to host families from back home for a tour of the Capitol. If you’re planning a trip to Washington and would like a tour, you can schedule one through my office here.

In the News

I recently authored an op-ed in the Washington Examiner discussing what Congress is doing to lower energy costs for American families. Take a look below.
